Dennis is an Olympic level coach, having been the coach for Denmark, Italy, Switzerland and Sweden's National Teams and qualifying players for Olympics in Sidney 2000, Athens 2004, Beijing 2008 and London 2012.
We're elated to have him here with us, as our Head Coach. He's well accomplished and effective with ALL skill levels.
In 2014 he and his wife Mette, and their daughter Sofia, sold everything and moved from Copenhagen, Denmark to The United States to pursue a longtime passion of opening a Badminton Academy in North Carolina. So, you can see their commitment to bringing the sport of Badminton to our area.
Mette grew up in Denmark, and comes to Badminton NC from the banking industry. Maybe that's why she was instantly THE candidate for taking on our accounting systems!
Mette is the administrative in BNC and she takes care of answering questions about the programs, payments and classes.
The Christensen's daughter Sofia is quickly learning English, here in The States, and seems to have adapted very well, to her new home here in North Carolina.
Coach John Acebu has years of experience of being among the top players on the east coast. Originally he is from Philippines, where he played badminton most of his life. He came to US at 21 years old and joined the US army in 2011 - With this military background he is known in BNC as the “touch physical coach”, and is naturally in charge of the physical training for our best juniors.
In his free time he enjoys biking and taking his dog out to parks etc. John has been a part of Team BNC since 2017.
Coach Truong Pham, also called Coach T is our single expert. Truong has been among the best in NC for many years and with his kind and patient being, he’s great with our junior players.
T grew up in Vietnam and has been playing badminton since the age of 12. In 2009 he graduated from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Science.
Privately T is located in Chapel Hill with his wife and 2 beautiful daughters. In his free time he enjoys exercising and playing with his girls. He is also our "stringer", so a lot of his time is spend re-stringing the rackets, which he really enjoys.
T has been a part of Team BNC, since we opened in 2014.
Coach Mark Chandler works with the youngest of our juniors and make sure they have a fun and positive environment to learn badminton. Mark is a physician and works with kids on a daily basis and we have the pleasure of his expertise in the weekends. Coach Mark has lived in the Triangle area since 1986 and started playing badminton as a 50 year old. He learned that not only did he love the sport but also teaching the sport. He teaches both junior and adult players and he has been a part of Team BNC since 2015.
Why Are We Qualified To Coach?
Our headcoach Dennis Christensen is in charge of the Junior Program in BNC. With him he has assistant coaches Truong Pham (T), John Acebu & Mark Chandler. Together they make sure we have a challenging and fun environment to teach badminton. All Badminton NC's coaches are certified coaches through USA Badminton Federation which include background screening and Safe Sports certification.
